Lots of times when well-meaning people have absolutely no idea what to say to someone going through an incredibly challenging time (like major illness or grief), the ole chestnut “everything happens for a reason” slips out. Maybe eventually, with time and distance, this becomes more appropriate. But not immediately. In fact, it can feel incredibly confusing and hurtful to hear this. While we would never advocate for actual violence, giving someone this encouragement card lets them know you’re in their corner. You might not know what it feels like to be in their shoes, but you know when to be irritated on their behalf. And that will mean a lot. Trust us.

Sometimes the snarky card is the perfect one.
I have bought and used this card many times. Although I have a deep faith and believe that we can learn much during our hard times, I believe it is SO insensitive to say that “everything happens for a reason” to someone suffering a loss. Bravo to this card!
I've been buying Em and Friends cards for years! I buy them in bulk so I always have one on hand. They're funny (I'm all about eliciting a laugh), refreshingly honest and poignant. So much better than store bought cards!!
I've sent this card many times. The recipients and their families have told me it made them laugh, which is certainly a gift when facing a random and awful illness.
The card says it all. Great qualify!
